I Have A Finish To Show...

Once upon a time there were three little blocks......

Who got together on a design wall and had a party.

Soon they had organised themselves into this....

Not bad, but there was still more to be done.

Bit of this.....

Bit of that...
Bit of the other.....

Ta da da da da da daaaahhhhhhh.

(see the little dog he is seriously impressed)
And again for those who were busy talking and missed the first stage bow....encore encore the crowd yells..

All hand quilted and machine pieced.

I am proud of this and every stitch was worth the end result. I first saw this in a magazine in 1998, and finally it lives in my home.

I hope my next completion is not so long in fruition.
I know it wont be because back then I had a desire but no real clue, now I have learnt a bit more and have the confidence to proceed.

I even designed the quilting myself! I pondered on what to put in the large yellow blocks, a floral pattern didnt seem to suit, so a discovered the spiderweb pattern. I found a template at a craft show but it didnt fit the size of the space. I actually improvised and used the position of the spokes from the template as a guide and drew each block freehand.

It is quilted in perle cotton in three colours. Pink, white and yellow.

And a voile backing......because I fell in love with that fabric.

It is soft and pretty and almost the first one JUST for ME.

Sigh.......so happy......big smug smile on dial.

OOOOpppps, little slip in blogger etiquette here,

I need some bloggy encouragement, at this point I feel a little overwhelmed and distracted by the vast number of projects that I have taken on in my creative life.

It is all my own fault, I blame no one but myself, but now I need to at least complete something before I move on to yet another.

It takes me an hour to go from this to.......

As well as a lot of pressing and easing and trying to make the block sit flat. Luckily I am not a perfectionist and I know the quilting will take care of some of the wobbles.

It is just that I have 20 of these to complete and I am running out of steam, I want to finish them I really really do, but then I want to do this as well

Really I just need to stop fretting and just do, so I have set myself a goal of one a night, and at that rate I should finish this week, cos as we speak I have whittled it down to 8.

I have a project in every room of the house, sewing machine work, hand work, day work and tv work.....I know I am not alone in this.

Maybe this blog will keep me honest, or maybe it will make me try to overachieve, really  I should get off the computer and get cracking but I do like a little chat to distract me.......aaaaarrrrgghhh.......alright, alright I will get back to that block.

Really just chatting has helped, Thank you.

PINK

This is the start of my pink story. I found this wonderful piece in my local op shop, or as others may refer, a thrift store.

I walked past several times over several days, it was cracked, its head is wonky and it had lost the roses from its head. But it was pink and pretty and only $1. So it eventually came home with me. I love it.

It has become the basis of my pink collection.

Even my sewing machine has touches of pink on it

What can I say, the colour speaks to me, I have heard it say that we wear pink when we seek love and affection......actually I wear a lot of black so what does that say?

This is a doll I made a while ago now, it was a Rosalie Quinlin design. I love her colors and I pretty much followed her lead all the way.

The wings are painted, and she has been joined with her sisters to make this lovely piece.

The legs and shoes are painted also. This was the start of my love of Rosalie's designs and I really embarrassed myself when I got to meet her in person. I all but squeaked and blushed......she was very calm and smiled at the slightly deranged fan lady.

This is on my design wall at the moment, something I found in the 80's from a Better Homes and Garden Magazine. It just so happens that templates have been made by Matilda's Own that matched the magazine pattern. So I have used them to help me make it. So easy if you remain accurate. Inset seams and all, because I do love a challenge.

I had some Liberty fat 8ths that I had picked up at a quilt show, and it all came together. I am half way there so maybe now I have the blog to fill up I will push on a hurry up with the rest. I do however have a short attention span at times and if the sewing gets too repetitious I can loose focus. Just me?

Well I hope this works, I am about to hit the publish button......here goes.
